What is Maryland Excels? Why is it important?

Maryland EXCELS is a voluntary program that helps childcare providers meet specific quality standards. This ensures that your children are in a nurturing environment that supports their development.

Participating in Maryland EXCELS means that Maria-Luz Family Childcare is committed to providing high-quality early childhood education and care.

Here’s what it means for you as a family here:

Regular Developmental Assessments: We conduct regular developmental assessments using standardized tools. These assessments help us gauge children's progress in areas such as language, motor skills, and social-emotional development. By consistently evaluating their growth, we can tailor our activities to meet their individual needs.

Professional Development Workshops: Staff attends workshops on topics like child development, behavior management, or health and nutrition. For example, when staff learn new techniques for encouraging positive behavior, they apply it in their daily interactions with the children.

Family Communication: Maria-Luz Family Childcare puts out regular newsletters to keep families informed about their child's progress and ways to support learning at home.

Outdoor Learning: Our program emphasizes outdoor play and nature exploration. Children participate in gardening activities, learn about local wildlife, and enjoy structured playtime in nearby parks, which promotes physical health and environmental awareness.

Celebration of Milestones: Our program recognizes developmental milestones, such as birthdays and learning achievements, with special events. This acknowledgment helps build a sense of belonging and community among families.
